Shawn Tyler Stein is a professional drummer from San Francisco serving the Bay Area music scene as a regular and on-call musician for Bay Area based touring artists, local bands, and corporate music organizations. With years of experience as a working musician, Shawn covers a wide variety of styles in many settings locally and across Northern California.

Shawn has built a reputation as a reliable performing musician for many, consistently bringing a high quality of musicality to his playing. Over years of being called upon in many different situations, Shawn has developed into a highly versatile drummer across genres such as R&B, Soul/Neo-Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk, Rock, Blues, Pop/Top 40, Reggae/Ska, Bluegrass, Country, Latin, and Afro-Cuban styles.

Shawn has worked with or currently performs with artists such as Lightning Rose (Rachel Rose of Jefferson Starship), Stymie & The Pimp Jones Luv Orchestra, Elena, Roem Baur, Royal Jelly Jive, Speakease, Oakadelic, Dirty Cello, The Jro Project, Eric Silverman, Hydrophonic, David Davis, Big Blue Soul Review, and with many other INDEPENDENT artists.

Shawn has performed opening sets before Grammy award winning artists on a couple occasions, including Mike McCready’s (Pearl Jam) Flight to Mars at The Independent and for Fantastic Negrito at The Chapel and has performed before for well-known acts such as Marcy Playground.

Shawn studied music through the San Francisco State University Jazz program, where he focused on Afro-Cuban and Jazz music while studying independently under renown drummers such as Atma Anur, John Mader, Akira Tana, John Calloway, while crafting his own sound on drums.
