Shawn Tyler Stein is a San Francisco–based professional drummer actively serving the Bay Area music scene as both a first-call and on-call musician. He regularly performs with touring artists, local bands, corporate music organizations, and church services, bringing years of experience as a versatile and dependable performer across Northern California.

Known for his reliability and strong musicality, Shawn has built a reputation for consistently delivering high-quality performances in a wide range of settings. His adaptability has made him a sought-after drummer across numerous genres, including R&B, soul/neo-soul, jazz, hip-hop, funk, rock, blues, pop/Top 40, reggae/ska, bluegrass, country, Latin, Afro-Cuban, and second-line styles.

His performance credits include work with artists such as Lightning Rose (featuring Rachel Rose of Jefferson Starship), Earl Thomas, Stymie & The Pimp Jones Luv Orchestra, Elena, Roem Baur, Royal Jelly Jive, Speakease, Oakadelic, Dirty Cello, The Jro Project, Eric Silverman, Hydrophonic, David Davis, Big Blue Soul Review, and Kiana Melendez, among many other independent artists.

Shawn has performed with nationally recognized, award-winning artists such as Earl Thomas and has appeared in opening slots for Grammy Award–winning acts, including Mike McCready’s Flight to Mars at The Independent and Fantastic Negrito at The Chapel. He has also supported well-known acts such as Marcy Playground.

He studied music at San Francisco State University’s Jazz program, with a focus on jazz and Afro-Cuban styles, and further developed his craft through private study with renowned drummers including Atma Anur, John Mader, Akira Tana, and John Calloway.

Shawn is endorsed by Snareweight drum dampeners (since 2023).

He is available for live performances, touring, remote and in-studio recording sessions, and private drum instruction.
